Quick update

Hello! It’s been a while since I posted here. I have been rearranging my work-station quite a bit this year, so have been getting used to that.

I finished my colourist work on the final book in the Nnewts saga – Nnewts book 3 The Battle for Amphibopolis by Doug TenNapel last year. That is finally out! I hope you have a peek, it was a lot of fun (and a few sleepless nights) to work with Doug on that. It’s published under Scholastic Graphix.

Big book – 215 pages – an egg timer and listening to Reverie by Ivan Torrent (Human Legacy, Release My Heart & The Power of Will are really gorgeous tracks – the whole album seems to tell a story of hope, despair and a final epic struggle…but I digress) really helped me get through it.
I had much needed help from Josh Kenfield, Kip Henderson and Christine Garner who “Flatted” the pages. Flatting is basically the prepping of black and white art by filling in the spaces between the line art that Doug made – then I had to get the colour palettes figured out and paint that bad boy in.

What you may not know about Doug, is that he’s one of the nicest people you could meet in person. It’s been a pleasure working with him over the years, and was never something I expected to be doing after finding his comic book work as a fan many years ago.

Anyhow, I’ve been working on a little side project for someone which I can’t really say much about yet too – I’ll update about that when I’m able to. I’m busy making my own artwork, and will update this site properly (I hope! It needs a fresh lick of paint). All my best.

Another Comic finished

I can finally say that another huge comic by Doug TenNapel has been coloured in. The third and final book (as far as I know at this time) in the Nnewts saga. He made it Two hundred and twenty four pages long. There might be some little edits to do to it, but it feels better that it’s done now. I can blog without feeling guilty.

I haven’t had time for any of the things I thought I would have. I’m going to focus on my drawing skills from now on and leave colourist work behind me, I think. I need a break from it.

Here’s a little sketch I did a while ago of a couple of the characters out of the book.

I quit twitter a couple of months ago. I didn’t feel it was a good platform for me. I’ll be blogging here more often now – I have to admit I’m a bit rusty at this. My sister has a very good art blog by the way – Thimble Folio Press. She has a knack for finding useful things and resources about art too, so check that out if you are interested.
